All in All

All in All

By Steve Melton

Our God is all In all.

He is first in all His creation.

                    His power is beyond understanding.

                    It defies all human explanation.

God is the first architect and engineer.

He structured the universe with great design.

Atomic particles and galaxies were made.

                    He also invented time.

                    God was the first chemist.

He combined the elements in every combination.

Then made them into a form.

God created life with precise calculation.

                    God was the first artist.

                    Sculptured the mountains and sea.

                    Then took color and light.

And painted every flower and tree.

God is the only giver of life.

                    His attributes we ever extol.

                    But, what surpasses them all.

                    He created our very soul.

Brilliance Without Wisdom

"We have too many men of science; too few men of God. We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount. Man is stumbling blindly through a spiritual darkness while toying with the precarious secrets of life and death. The world has achieved brilliance without wisdom, power without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing than we know about living." (General Omar Bradley, Armistice Day Speech, 1948)

“Put Him Down Right There”

A pioneer preacher was called to administer the funeral over the remains of a man who had always refused to come to church. As the pallbearers neared the door of the little church house, the old preacher stood in the doorway and beckoned to them saying, "Gentlemen, I have never taken an undue advantage of any living person, and I am not going to begin by imposing on the dead. If this man were living he would not enter this building. Put him down right there and let's respect him enough to finish his earthly pilgrimage as he lived it."

The service was conducted from the door while the remains rested upon the lawn of the church building. Perhaps the preacher was a bit "hard," but certainly he had a point.

God is going to fill heaven. You decide in the here and now whether you will be numbered among those chosen to enter there (Matt. 22:2-10).

“Where Should I Study?”

"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:13-14).

A young man who wanted to become a lawyer wrote to Abraham Lincoln, asking where and with whom he should read books. Mr. Lincoln replied: "My dearest Sir: I have just reached home and found your letter. If you are resolutely determined to make a lawyer of yourself, the thing is more than half done already. It is but a small matter whether you read with anybody or not. I did not read with anyone. Get the books and read and study them till you understand them in their principal features, and that is the main thing. It is of no consequence to be in a large town while you are reading. I read at New Salem, which never had three hundred people living in it. The books, and your capacity for understanding them, are just the same in all places. Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other one thing." (From Abraham Lincoln)

Let us individually read and study the word of God so that we can understand it in its principal features, and let us resolutely determine to obtain the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

A Moments Wisdom

--There is a 0.0296% chance that your child will become a professional athlete. There is a 100% chance that your child will stand before Jesus. Get them to church!

--Fear and anxiety are cousins but not twins. Fear sees a threat; anxiety imagines one.

--“We shall soon be in a world in which a man may be howled down for saying that two and two make four, in which people will persecute the heresy of calling a triangle a three sided figure, and hang a man for maddening a mob with the news that the grass is green.” (G.K. Chesterton, 1874-1936)

--“Some people will never like you because your spirit irritates their demons.” (Denzel Washington)

--No one was ever more loving than Jesus Christ. Yet even His love made some people angry.

--Don’t say that a loving God is going to send you to hell. He’s not. The thing that will send you to hell is that you are a sinner, and you don’t want to admit it and stop being one.

--Being a Christian doesn’t make me better than you are; being a Christian makes me better than I was.

--In a wicked world, when you stand up against evil, you will be labeled a hater. Get used to it.

--Unfaithful members do not forsake the assembling because they live too far from the church building; they forsake the assembling because they live to far from Jesus.
